Should You Test Your Partner To See If He'll Fight For You?

When you’re making this sort of judgment call, there are two questions I’d suggest asking yourself, one internal, one external and by pondering upon them one can look into their own heart to find out what's going on:

  • Is my action me being the authentic me or me trying to manipulate?
  • What sort of men will this behavior systematically select for?

Before we actually find some that sparks our souls we date a lot of people some of whom might be really bad but what's worse is you being in a relationship that is not compatible with you. Being single is not all bad, at least it's better than being in a bad relationship. Even the studies point out that single people were found to be happier than the ones in a bad relationship.

The more you try to manipulate someone into liking you the less you’ll be finding someone truly compatible with your authentic self, and the more you’ll systematically attract men who like your facade and not the real you. When you’re being honest, you may get rejected more, but you circumvent that problem. That’s not to say the “real you” is necessarily perfect or that you shouldn’t strive for self-improvement, but authenticity will always trump manipulation in terms of both long-term relationship success and attractiveness to other healthy humans.

Does breaking up with your boyfriend to “test” him sound like an authentic move or a manipulative one? It seems pretty clearly the latter to me, one built on insecurity. As such, it fails on those grounds.

In terms of the second question, what sort of man would “fight” for you? You’ve just expressed your wish to no longer be in a relationship with him. He, in turn, says “no, you’re staying with me.”

What kind of guy will react that way? One who thinks he knows better than you, one who thinks he owns you, one who doesn’t care about your wishes, etc. He may, in fact, love you, but that would be true regardless of whether you took this action or not.

Then how you expect one who really cares about you and your feelings to react and respond? s/he would be probably broken and depressed and he will eventually accept what you never actually meant to ask him to do. He might try a little to fix what has been broken what in the end s/he won't even try no because he is not in love with you anymore, just because he cares about your feelings and would accept whatever you put forward.

So which guy you rather be?

One the one side the kind of person who by manipulating some other tries to get answer meanwhile crushing others heart in process or at the other hand be the person who trusts his/her relationship and confronts his/her partner regarding any issues.

Which would you rather be?

I hope the answer is obvious :)
