What To Do When The Unimaginable Happens!

When we lose someone we love, we lose control over who we are, and the overwhelming thoughts of some unknown fear turn out to be scarier than anything else. It's the worst thing feeling one can ever experience.

I realized it when I lost my grandmother last summer. On that evening I was chilling out in my room talking to my mother over a phone was within a few steps from my grandmother. Suddenly her voice turned louder, and she said that my grandma is throwing up. She suffered from multiple strokes and I was sitting in my room holding on to my phone helplessly and within an hour we took her to the hospital.

The Toughest Hour

The toughest part is not when you hear it the first time from the doctors she is dead or the time when you perform last rituals, the worst is when you see her lying there without a heartbeat and before you could process it, tears run down your cheeks, your mouth becomes dry, you feel like a sharp needle made of ice pierced in your heart, legs feel heavy and you just stand there gasping for air.

What Happens Next?

A couple of weeks go by, it gets even worse when we are still trying to cope up with all that has happened & is happening, all the people who constantly remind you of your grief pushing you into a deeper unstable state. We become a slave of our sadness and the more we try to run away from it, the more we drown in it. As there is an interesting paradox that when someone wants to be happy, it's not a happy thought as it's like accepting you're sad, which is quite opposite to s/he was hoping for by their saying.

When It All Start To Settle Down

Then after a while, things settle down and it gets better but doesn't last for long as wanting to greave and to he hurting doesn't go away and we feel like cheating on ourselves. We feel like we have changed and don't care about the person we used to love more than anything the same.

The Right Thing To Do

Almost everybody suggests us to forget about what happened and move on. But only we know who difficult it is for us to let go. And all that we do is just trying to run away from all that emotions and the hurting and ignoring the empty void in our heads. You might already know all this if you have ever been in such a situation before, but let me tell you this, trying to forget is the worst thing that you can do to the person. When we try to forget, we steal precious memories of us with that person from ourselves. So it's better to hold on to the memories and the sadness and grief of loss and cherish all those lovely times that you spent with that person. Keep that person alive in your memories.
